Presentation “Biblioworld”
On the May 8 the Central Library of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences hosted the specialized presentaion "Library World 2019", organized by the Bulgarian Information Consortium. The event was attended by many Bulgarian and foreign publishers and trade partners, that presented their products and services at 8 bookstalls in the building's foyer - ABE-IPS Consortium in Bulgaria: JSTOR, APS and McGraw-Hill, "Logistics Systems" Ltd., IOP Publishing, Thieme Publishing Group, EBSCO International Services, Central and Eastern European Online Library (CEEOL), National Archives, Emerald Publishing, Edward Elgar Publishing, OCLC, Oxford University Press and Wiley. The participants and guests also had the opportunity to learn more details about the databases, information resources and services, offered to the Bulgarian libraries and specialists thanks to the presentations made by the companies in the hall "Prof. Marin Drinov".
Donation from publishing house “Zahariy Stoyanov”
At the beginning of February 2019 the collections of the Central Library were enriched with another valuable and big donartion. The publishing house "Zahariy Stoyanov" donated over 300 books - fiction, reference editions and materials in the field of philosophy and science. Among the donated books we could point out Bulgarian classics (Geo Milev, Yordan Yovkov, Talev, Peyo Yavorov, Ivan Vazov); new books by contemporary Bulgarian writers, published in the following sequels - "Contemporary Bulgarian Prose", "Contemporary Bulgarian Poetry", "Voluminous Editions", "Metaphor Hunters", "Literature Criticism and Aesthetics"; world classics, philosophical and historical editions; encyclopedias; voluminous editions in philosophy and history; valuable books from the sequels "Philosophy and human" (Friedrich Nietzsche, Nikolai Berdyaev, Lev Shestov, Erich Fromm, Vladimir Soloviev, Aristotle, Arthur Schopenhauer, Soren Kierkegaard etc.), "Duty and Honour", "Belief and Culture" and "Mythology and cultural antropology".
Book donation from the personal library of the Bulgarian ethnologist Assia Popova (1934-2018)
At the end of 2018, The Central Library received a valuable donation of books from the personal library of the famous Bulgarian scientist Asya Popova. These books are currently being processed and will be officially presented in May. Assia Popova (1934-2018) is a Bulgarian ethnologist. She studied in the French department of the Language School in Lovech and Russian Philology in Moscow. After working for several years in the Ethnographic Institute and Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, in 1968 she settled in France. Since the beginning of 1972 she worked at the French National Center for Scientific Research in Paris, firstly as a research assistant and then as an assistant professor. The donation includes about 1 000 books, mostly in French, but there also editions in English and Russian. The titles cover topics in ethnology, social anthropology and valuable humanities reference books. Donation there are include works by Claude Levi-Strauss and Mircea Eliade, as well as books by Assia Popova herself.
