National scientific program “Development and recognition of the Bulgarian studies abroad”
The Central Library of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will participate in the National scientific program “Development and recognition of the Bulgarian studies abroad“ (Bulgarian studies). This program will provide strong support for the Bulgarian studies to become an attractive research area for foreign scholars and will place emphasis mainly on the Bulgarian language, literature, history, art, science and culture (including ethnography and folklore).
The Central Library of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will take part in two tasks of the work package “Digital resources”:
– Bibliography on Bulgarian studies in the automated system ALEPH 500;
– Digital collection “Bulgarian studies” – access to the collection.
Expected results:
- Strong and firm partnership between the beneficiary scientific and educational organizations, which will provide favourable scientific environment for students, doctoral and post-graduate students, interested in the Bulgarian language, literature, history, art, science and culture (including ethnography and folklore);
- Active network of Bulgarian researchers and foreign Bulgarian scholars (leading, established and young), that conduct joint scientific studies and hold forums on Bulgarian studies;
- Increasing the scientific and expert capacity in the field of Bulgarian studies as an important component for its recognition abroad;
- Stronger connection between the educational programs and the scientific studies in order to develop and apply the gain knowledge, skills and experience in the field of Bulgarian studies, which will increase the interest in Bulgaria, Bulgarian language, history, art and culture.
The national scientific program “Bulgarian studies” includes the following directions:
- Expand and develop the potential in the field of Bulgarian studies in order to create an active network of Bulgarian researchers and foreign Bulgarian scholars (leading, established and young), that teach and conduct joint scientific studies;
- Develop the established and create new resources with free access to digital content in Bulgarian language, history, science, art and culture (including ethnography and folklore);
- Create a specialized “translation hub” and a free access uniform national platform “Bulgarian studies”, which will unify and upgrade the existing resources (educational and scientific) and will be updated in the future;
- Popularize the Bulgarian language, literature, history, art, science and culture (including ethnography and folklore) and other national achievements by organizing different joint scientific forums and educational courses and seminars with leading European and worldwide organizations.

Specific goals of the program:
Overcoming the existing negative trends and creating an attractive image of Bulgaria by raising the interest in Bulgarian studies abroad as a research area, focused mainly on the Bulgarian language, history, art and culture (including ethnography and folklore).
Funding:
The program is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science according to RESOLUTION № from the 7th April 2022.
